Vikings cut wide receiver Koren Robinson

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Minnesota wide receiver Koren Robinson was among eight players cut Saturday by the Vikings.

A ninth overall selection by Seattle in the 2001 NFL Draft, Robinson appeared headed for stardom with the Seahawks before off the field problems threatened his career.

Robinson caught 78 passes for 1,240 yards and five touchdowns in 2002 but was suspended in 2004 for substance-abuse issues. In 2005, after a DUI arrest became public, Robinson was released by the Seahawks.

The Vikings signed Robinson before the 2005 season. The former North Carolina State star developed into a Pro Bowl kick returner and, by the end of the season, was the club's top playmaker.

Robinson caught 22 balls for 347 yards and a touchdown in 14 games last season. He returned 47 kicks for 1,221 yards and a touchdown.

However, off the field problems continued to haunt Robinson when he was charged with drunk driving and fleeing police on Aug. 15.
