Lance Berkman hit a two-run double; Morgan Ensberg hit an RBI single; and the Astros (62-68) scored two runs on a throwing error by Joe Randa and a wild pitch by Pittsburgh starter and loser Zach Duke. Houston has won three of its last four games.

Despite being six games under .500, Houston still has a shot at an NL wild-card spot.

Pettitte walked one batter and stuck out three. Brad Lidge recorded his 27th save.

Jose Castillo had two hits and two RBI, Ryan Doumit hit a sacrifice fly, and Duke hit an RBI single for the Pirates (50-80), who have split their last six games.

In 6 2/3 innings, Duke (8-12) was tagged for seven runs and 10 hits.
