
ATLANTA, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by Austin Kearns in the top of the seventh inning Friday night helped Washington edge the Atlanta Braves, 7-6.
Alex Escobar and Felipe Lopez both hit sacrifice flies; Kearns scored three times; Escobar had three hits; and Brian Schneider had two hits and one RBI for the Nationals (55-73), who broke a five-game losing streak.
In relief, the winner was Ryan Wagner (1-2). Saul Rivera recorded his first major league save.
Ryan Langerhans hit a two-run homer; Marcus Giles hit a two-run double and knocked in three runs; Edgar Renteria hit an RBI single; while Matt Diaz had two runs and two hits for the Braves (59-68), who lost for the third straight time.
The losing pitcher was reliever Chad Paronto (1-2).
Escobar injured his right shoulder while diving in to first base in the eighth inning.
