CHICAGO, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Michael Barrett, Angel Pagan, Phil Nevin and Aramis Ramirez hit home runs Thursday, powering the Chicago Cubs to an 11-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Barrett hit a two-run shot in the Cub's four-run first inning, while Pagan had a three-run homer during a five-run third-inning rally, and Niven and Ramirez had solo shots in the fourth.
The first two homers -- and nine runs -- were charged to Phillies starter Cole Hamels (6-7), who took the loss. Four of the runs he allowed were unearned.
Chicago starter Carlos Zambrano (14-5) allowed two runs and six hits over seven innings in cruising behind the strong offensive support.
Philadelphia scored in the first and seventh innings, with Ryan Howard and Jose Hernandez contributing run-scoring singles.
