Mauresmo, Davenport win at New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo of France and Lindsay Davenport won their second-round matches Wednesday at the Pilot Pen Tennis Classic in New Haven, Conn.

Mauresmo, the defending women's champion and the top seed, was a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, winner over qualifier Galina Voskoboeva of Russia. Davenport, the seventh-seeded American, beat Francesca Schiavone of Italy, 6-4, 6-2.

Second-seeded Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium downed Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues, 6-4, 6-2, Third-seeded Elena Dementieva of Russia beat unseeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0.

Unseeded Marion Bartoli of France knocked off No. 4 seed Nadia Petrova of Russia, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). And Italy's Mara Santangelo advanced in a walkover when China's Na Li could not play because of a right ankle injury.

Petrova has lost her last five matches since winning the German Open in Berlin in May.
