WNBA: Connecticut 68, Washington 65

UNCASVILLE, Conn., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Connecticut held on Sunday afternoon to beat Washington, 68-65, to sweep their best-of-three WNBA Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Katie Douglas led the way with 16 points, Lindsey Whalen scored 15 points and Taj McWilliams-Franklin had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Sun, who allowed just 10 points in the third quarter, advanced to the East final for the second straight season. They will play the Detroit Shock for the conference title.

Alana Beard had a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds, Nikki Teasley had 16 points and three rebounds and Delisha Milton had 13 points for the Mystics, who pulled within one point, 66-65, with :09 left in the contest.

Whalen made two free throws with :07 remaining, but Beard then missed a desperation three-pointer.
