NFL: N.Y. Jets 27, Washington 14

LANDOVER, Md., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Rookie Brad Smith had a 61-yard touchdown run Saturday night to help the New York Jets beat Washington, 27-14.

The score came on a reverse in the second quarter.

Leon Washington added an 87-yard kickoff return for a score. Brooks Bollinger passed for 69 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, and Washington caught three passes for 23 yards.

The Jets (1-1) had 216 net rushing yards.

Todd Collins was 12-for-18 passing for 114 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Jimmy Farris made five catches for 65 yards, Buck Ortega caught a touchdown pass and Mike Sellers had 26 yards on three rushing attempts for the Redskins (0-2).
