NFL: Chicago 24, San Diego 3

CHICAGO, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Brian Urlacher returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown as the Chicago Bears trounced San Diego, 24-3.

Rashied Davis had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown; Rex Grossman completed 7-of-16 passes for 83 yards, no touchdowns; and one interception; and P.J. Pope had 56 yards on 14 rushing attempts for the Bears (1-1-0).

Charlie Whitehurst and Phillip Rivers combined for 172 yards passing, no touchdowns, and two interceptions; Michael Turner ran for 55 yards on six rushing attempts; and Greg Camarillo made two catches for 40 yards for the Chargers (1-1-0).

Rivers, a third-year pro and former No. 4 overall draft pick out of North Carolina State, is beginning his first season as the Chargers' starting quarterback after the departure of Drew Brees, who signed with New Orleans in the off-season.

The Chargers were without Pro Bowl running back LaDainian Tomlinson.
