DENVER, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Luis Gonzalez singled in the winning run in the top of the 18th inning to lead Arizona past Colorado 2-1 Tuesday in the longest game in Rockies history.

Brandon Medders (5-2), Arizona's eighth pitcher, threw the final three innings of hitless ball to get the win. He walked Todd Helton to start the bottom of the 18th, but retired the next three batters, fanning Ryan Spilborghs to end the contest at 5 hours, 21 minutes, the longest game in Colorado history.

Eric Byrnes and Chad Tracy each had three hits for Arizona, which snapped a two-game skid and moved within a game of Cincinnati for the wild card lead.

Cory Sullivan had four hits for the Rockies in the second of the four-game set at Coors Field.
