Groenefeld, Hantuchova win at Rogers Cup

MONTREAL, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- German Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Slovak Daniela Hantuchova were among Tuesday's opening-round tennis winners at the $1.34 million Rogers Cup in Canada.

Groenefeld beat fellow German Julia Schruff, 6-3, 6-3, while Hantuchova defeated Argentine Gisela Dulko 6-2, 6-0.

In an upset, Canadian Marie-Eve Pelletier defeated Chinese Na Li 6-4, 6-2.

Last week's Carson runner-up, Jelena Jankovic, posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Ukraine's Alona Bondarenko. The Serbian Jankovic lost to Russian Elena Dementieva in last week's finale at the JPMorgan Chase Open.

Additional second say wins were posted by Australian Nicole Pratt, Americans Shenay Perry and Jamea Jackson, Zimbabwe's Cara Black, Polish Marta Domachowska and Canadian Stephanie Dubois.
