He has a one-point lead over Ian Leggatt. Sergio Garcia (16 points) is third, and Harrison Frazar and David Howell tied for fourth with 14 points.

Kevin Sutherland, Dean Wilson, Steve Flesch, Stewart Cink, Tom Pernice Jr. and Jeff Gove are tied for sixth with 13 points.

The second round was suspended because of inclement weather and will resume on Saturday morning.

The event is using a modified Stableford scoring system that awards points for scores under par and subtracts points for scores over par.

Five points are awarded for eagles and two for birdies; one point is subtracted for bogeys and three for double-bogeys or worse. Eight points are given for double-eagles, although there have been only three recorded in the 20-year history of the event.

Stanford, who shot a tournament record 8-under 64 Thursday, is 10-under 134 going into the third round.

"I think when you're putting well or if you have confidence in your putter, you'll hit it to more conservative spots on the green because you know you're rolling it well and you can make some of those putts," Stanford said.

"It was hard work out there battling the elements, but I quite enjoy playing in the wind so I tried to look at the positive side of it," Kjeldsen said. "This place, with the beach and everything, it also feels very much like where I am from in Denmark so it feels very much at home to me."

Minnesota's Liriano likely done for 2006

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- There is a chance that Minnesota Twins rookie left-hander Francisco Liriano will not pitch again this season because of a left shoulder ligament strain.

The team said on its Web site that an MRI Thursday afternoon revealed the hard-throwing southpaw has "a mild chronic strain of the ulnar collateral ligament" in his left shoulder with some rotator cuff weakness and stiffness.

Liriano was put on the 15-day disabled list in hope that a combination of rest and physical therapy will strengthen the shoulder.

"We want to get rid of the soreness in the elbow and make the shoulder stronger," said Twins physician Dr. John Steubs. "Those two things have to be in line before he starts to resume pitching activities."

The 22-year-old Liriano, who was an American League all-star in July, is 12-3 with a major league-best ERA of 2.19 and 142 strikeouts in 119 innings.
