LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Kenny Lofton hit an RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday night to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 4-3 win over Colorado.
The victory vaulted the Dodgers into first place in the National League West Division.
Overall, Lofton had three hits and two RBI; Andre Ethier hit a solo home run; and Nomar Garciaparra had two hits and one RBI for the Dodgers (59-56), who bounced back after having their 11-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night.
The winning pitcher was closer Takashi Saito (4-2), who blew a save for the first time this season in the top of the ninth.
Matt Holliday hit a solo homer; Cory Sullivan had two hits, including an RBI double; and a run scored on a throwing error by the Dodgers' Jeff Kent for the Rockies (55-59), who have dropped four of their last five.
The loser was Jose Mesa (0-5).
