Jockey sues racing board to overturn ban

CHICAGO, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Ireland's Kieren Fallon, who rode Powerscourt to victory last year in the Arlington Million, is suing the Illinois Racing Board to overturn a ban against him.

The jockey, who faces race-fixing charges in England, has been barred by the Arlington Park steward from Saturday's Million race, reports The Chicago Tribune.

In his lawsuit filed in the Cook County Circuit Court in Chicago, Fallon claimed Illinois law does not allow the board to bar him based on the decision of a racing authority in another nation.

The jockey also said his trial in England may not start until next year and that British authorities have not asked other countries to ban him, says the report.

Fallon had hoped to ride Ace in the Million and Ivan Denisovich in the Grade I $400,000 Secretariat Stakes the same day, The Tribune reported.
