
LOS ANGELES, Slovenia, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- In her return from a back injury, Lindsay Davenport lost in the second round of the J.P. Morgan Chase Open Tennis Tournament in Los Angeles Wednesday night.
The fourth-seeded American was beaten by unseeded Samantha Stosur of Australia, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-3.
Top-seeded Maria Sharapova beat unseeded fellow Russian Anastassia Rodionova, 6-3, 6-1; Serena Williams beat fellow American Ashley Harkleroad, 6-3, 6-2; sixth-seeded Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany topped Japan's Akiko Morigami, 6-3, 6-2; and seventh-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia beat American Lisa Raymond 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.
Other winners were 10th-seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia; No. 14 Shahar Peer of Israel; No. 15 Marion Bartoli of France; and 16th-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.
