Chinese Na Li wins Stockholm opener

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Chinese Na Li defeated Estonian Maret Ani 6-1, 7-5 Monday at the Nordea Nordic Light Open.

One other seed advanced on Day 1, as No. 5 Colombian Catalina Castano beat the Ukraine's Yuliana Fedak 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

In upsets, Danish wild card Caroline Wozniacki defeated seventh-seeded Czech Iveta Benesova 6-2, 6-0 and Slovakian Martina Sucha beat No. 8 Czech Klara Zakopalova, the former Klara Koukalova, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-4.

Also, Bulgarian Tszvetana Pironkova beat Italian Nathalie Vierin 7-5, 6-3.

This week's top seed is 2004 French Open champion Anastasia Myskina of Russia, who lost to Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik in last year's Nordic Light finale.
