
BALTIMORE, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Adam Loewen gave up one hit in 6 1/3 scoreless innings Saturday afternoon as Baltimore blanked the New York Yankees, 5-0.
Brian Roberts hit a two-run single; Jay Gibbons and Corey Patterson, who had two hits, stroked RBI singles; Nick Markakis drove in a run; and Miguel Tejada had two runs and three hits for the Orioles (50-61), who have only three wins in their last eight games.
Loewen (2-3) walked five batters and struck out eight.
Todd Williams and LaTroy Hawkins held the Yankees hitless in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Bobby Abreu had the only hit for the Yankees (65-42), who had a five-game winning streak snapped.
Losing pitcher Mike Mussina (13-4) surrendered three runs and six hits in five innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
