LYTHAM, England, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Juli Inkster Friday maintained a three-shot lead after two rounds of the Women's British Open Golf Tournament at Lytham, England.
Over 36 holes, Inkster is at 6-under 138. Her lead stood despite an even-par 72 in the second round.
"Sometimes in a major championship you've just got to grind it out, and today was one of those days," said Inkster, who opened with a 6-under 66 Thursday. "I'm very happy with the way I shot."
Silvia Cavalleri (69) is second at 3-under 141. Candie Kung (70), Karen Stupples (69), Lindsey Wright (71) and Lorie Kane (73) are tied for third at 2-under 142.
A big story of the day was the two-stroke penalty assessed against Michelle Wie for making contact with a piece of moss during her backswing in a bunker at the par-four 14th hole. That led to a triple-bogey on the hole.
