DALLAS, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys strong safety Roy Williams has signed a 5-year, $25.2 million contract extension, including an $11.1 million signing bonus.

The team said on its Web site that the contract is the richest signed by a safety in NFL history.

The 6-foot, 226-pound Williams, a first-round draft pick in 2002 out of Oklahoma, has been a Pro Bowl selection in all of his four NFL seasons.

In 64 games, he has 351 tackles, 12 interceptions, and forced eight fumbles.

"I just appreciate the Jones family -- (team owner) Jerry and (player personnel director Stephen (Jones) -- for taking care of me in this deal," he said on the Cowboys' Web site. "I take my hat off to them. They have a big belief in me and they showed that here today."

The team said Williams received half the bonus upon signing his new deal and will get the other half in March.
