
MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Mark Texeira hit two solo home runs Wednesday afternoon helping Texas to trounce the Minnesota Twins, 10-2.
Gerald Laird had one run, two hits, and three RBI. Carlos Lee, Matt Stairs and Michael Young all knocked in one run each for the Rangers (54-54), who have won three of their last four games.
Kip Wells (1-0), making his first start with the Rangers after being acquired from Pittsburgh, scattered one run and seven hits over five innings with two walks and two strikeouts.
Torri Hunter and Mike Redmond each drove in a run. Josh Bartlett had three hits, Nick Punto had a run and two hits and Redmond had two hits for the Twins (61-45), who have dropped two in a row and four of their last six games.
Losing pitcher Boof Bonser (2-3) gave up seven hits and six runs in four innings.
Texas turned six double plays, one short of the Major League record.
