KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 27 (UPI) -- Tamba Hali, an all-American defensive end at Penn State last season, Thursday signed a five-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hali, a native of Gbarnga, Liberia, fled the war-torn country when he was 10 and joined his father in the United States.
Last season, the 6-foot-3 inch, 275-pounder recorded 11 sacks and 65 tackles, was named first team all-Big Ten and the conference's Defensive Lineman of the Year.
In 47 games at Penn State, he recorded 179 tackles with 14 sacks.
The Chiefs also signed their third-round pick, Alabama quarterback Brodie Croyle, to a four-year contract.
Croyle passed for a school-record 2,499 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions in 12 games last season.
"We're happy to have both Tamba and Brodie under contract," said Kansas City President Carl Peterson. "I was always cautiously optimistic we could get something done before training camp."
