DENVER, July 26 (UPI) -- Albert Pujols hit a home run and three St. Louis pitchers combined on an eight-hit shutout in leading the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
St. Louis starter Chris Carpenter (10-4) gave up seven hits over 7 1/3 innings Tuesday. The Cardinals' Randy Flores had two-thirds of an inning in relief and Jason Isringhausen allowed one hit in the ninth to collect his 28th save.
Colorado starter Jason Jennings (6-9) was a hard-luck loser, allowing just four hits over nine innings.
But one of the hits was Pujols' league-leading 33rd home run with two outs in the sixth inning. Pujol hit a 1-1 pitch over the right-field wall, snapping a string of 12 consecutive batters retired by Jennings.
Colorado threatened several times, getting runners to third base in each of the first three innings. The Rockies stranded 11 runners in the game.
