MLB: Washington 8, San Francisco 6

WASHINGTON, July 25 (UPI) -- Ryan Church drove in three runs Tuesday as the Washington Nationals posted an 8-6 victory over the San Francisco Giants,

The Giants threatened in the ninth as Eliezer Alfonzo reached base on an error and Mark Sweeney followed with a single. However, Washington closer Chad Cordero worked out of the jam, recording the final three outs of the game for his 16th save of the season.

Nick Johnson was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Nationals, who have won four in a row and six of their last eight. Marlon Anderson added a two-run single.

Ramon Ortiz (7-9) picked up the victory despite giving up five runs on seven hits through six innings.

Switch-hitter Ray Durham hit a home run from both sides of the plate and finished with three RBI for the Giants. Alfonzo added a solo homer.
