Seeded Schruff loses opener in Budapest

BUDAPEST, Hungary, July 24 (UPI) -- Sixth-seeded German Julia Schruff was upset 6-2, 6-0 Monday by Ukrainian Yuliana Fedak in the opening round of the Budapest Grand Prix.

Also, German Martina Muller defeated Italian Nathalie Vierin 6-3, 6-2.

Four other first-round matches were were either postponed or suspended until Tuesday because of inclement weather. Second-seeded Dutchwoman Michaella Krajicek was scheduled to meet France's Stephanie Foretz and fourth-seeded Iveta Benesova was leading fellow Czech Katerina Bohmova 1-0 when their bout was stopped for the day.
