Hjertstedt third-round leader at B.C. Open

ENDICOTT, N.Y., July 22 (UPI) -- Gabriel Hjertstedt shot a 4-under 68 Saturday to take a one-shot lead going into the final round at the B.C. Open in Endicott, N.Y.

Hjertstedt, the 1997 B.C. Open winner, seeks his third career title and first since winning the 1999 Tucson Open.

A second-round co-leader, Hjertstedt is 14-under at 202 and holds the first 54-hole lead of his career despite bogeys at the 16th and 17th holes Saturday.

"Any time you are in front, that's a good thing," said Hjertstedt, who ranks 189 on the PGA Tour money list and 65 on the Nationwide Tour's list.

Mark Brooks, the 1996 PGA Champion and first-round leader, had a 66 and shares second place with David Branshaw (68) and Scott Gump (69) at 13-under 203.

Daisuke Maruyama of Japan (71) is tied for fifth at 205 with 1987 Masters champion Larry Mize (67), Matt Gogel (67) and John Rollins (68).
