MLB: Arizona 8, L.A. Dodgers 3

PHOENIX, July 17 (UPI) -- Enrique Gonzalez' pitching and batting skills Monday lifted Arizona past Los Angeles, 8-3, at Chase Field in Phoenix.

It was the first of a four-game series.

Gonzalez (3-2) pitched 6 2/3 innings and only allowed three runs on eight hits for the Diamondbacks, who have won six of their past seven games. The Venezuela native also went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two batted in.

Eric Byrnes was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer for Arizona while Shawn Green was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Rafael Furcal was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI for the Dodgers, who have lost five straight. Jeff Kent was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Veteran Aaron Sele (6-3) lasted just five-plus innings for the Dodgers, allowing five runs on nine hits.
