SILVIS, Ill., July 16 (UPI) -- John Senden held on Sunday to win the John Deere Classic at Silvis, Ill., and earn a berth in next week's British Open.

Senden, an Australian, closed with a 3-under 68 in the final round to get his first PGA Tour title, ending at 19-under 265 for a one-shot victory over J.P. Hayes.

Hayes, the 2002 John Deere champion, missed a six-foot eagle putt at the 17th hole that would have given him a one-shot lead at the time. He shot a 6-under 65 Sunday to end at 18-under 266.

Alex Cejka (67) and Heath Slocum (68) finished tied for third place at 269.

Senden, 35, had four birdies and one bogey in his final round.
