DETROIT, July 14 (UPI) -- Carlos Guillen's one-out home run in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 10-9 victory over the Kansas City Royals Friday night.
The Tigers fought back from a 6-3 deficit after five innings with six unanswered runs.
David DeJesus tied the game for the Royals with a three-run double in the eighth inning, but pitcher Jeremy Affeldt (4-6) couldn't take the game into extra innings and Kansas City lost its fourth straight.
Detroit's Todd Jones (2-5) pitched a scoreless ninth for his second win.
Mark Teahen and Angel Berroa both homered for the Royals. K.C. starter Kenny Rogers gave up five runs in four innings in his shortest outing of the year.
