Ozaki leads rain-delayed Senior Players

DEARBORN, Mich., July 14 (UPI) -- Joe Ozaki shot eight straight birdies Friday and leads the rain-suspended second-round of the Senior Players Championship at Dearborn, Mich., by one stroke.

The 50-year-old Champions Tour rookie sank a record-tying eight birdies on the front nine Friday to stand at 9-under-par before thunderstorms suspended play.

Ozaki had birdies on the second through ninth holes at the TPC of Michigan course, and was on the 13th hole when inclement weather halted play.

Tom Watson, Don Pooley, Gil Morgan, Jerry Pate, David Edwards and Mike Reid were in a six-player group at 8-under 136.

Ozaki, who never won on the PGA Tour, began the day in 34th place before his streak began with a chip-in for birdie on the par-four second hole. Ozaki was a 35-time Japan Golf Tour champion.

Dana Quigley carded eight-straight birdies in last year's Bruno's Memorial Classic.
