NEWPORT, R.I., July 14 (UPI) -- Andy Murray won both a rain-delayed match and a third-round contest Friday to reach the semifinals at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships at Newport, R.I.
The top-seeded Briton finished a suspended second-round match against Sam Querrey, which he won, 7-5, 6-2, and then cruised past Robert Kendrick in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
The 19-year-old Murray meets eighth-seeded American Justin Gimelstob, 29, in the semifinals. Gimelstob eliminated Kristian Pless, 6-3, 6-1, and also played in two doubles matches on Friday.
Sixth-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria ousted Yugoslavia's Alex Bogdanovic, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, and will play unseeded Australian Mark Philippoussis in a semifinal match Saturday.
Philippoussis ousted seventh-seed Mardy Fish, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3.
