East wins WNBA All-Star Game

NEW YORK, July 12 (UPI) -- Michelle Snow's dunk with 6.3 seconds left came too late Wednesday as the Western Conference lost to the East 98-82 in the WNBA All-Star Game in New York.

The victory, the first for the Eastern Conference in seven years, was paced by the Connecticut Suns' Katie Douglas who hit 16 points -- including 4-of-7 three-point attempts -- and was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Katie Smith added 14 points off the bench, Cheryl Ford had 13 points and Lindsay Whalen had 10 points and six assists for the East.

Rookie Seimone Augustus led the West All-Stars with 16 points while Lisa Leslie chipped in nine points and seven rebounds and Sheryl Swoops, last year's All-Star MVP, had six points.

The East took at 49-40 halftime lead and opened the third quarter with a 10-2 run.

Snow saved her slam dunk until time was expiring and the game was already decided.
