OAKLAND, Calif., July 8 (UPI) -- Jered Weaver held the Athletics to two hits over seven shutout innings as the Los Angeles Angels beat Oakland, 6-4, Saturday night.
Weaver (6-0) became the first Angel pitcher to win his first six major league starts, walking two and striking out five -- one night after the Angels got a one-hitter from John Lackey in Friday night's 3-0 victory over the A's.
Chone Figgins had four hits, one RBI and one run scored; Maicer Izturis had three hits, including a two-run homer; and Juan Rivera added a solo homer for the Angels.
The Angels nearly blew a 6-0 when Brendan Donnelly served up four runs on four hits in the eighth inning. Francisco Rodriguez gave up three hits, but earned his 20th save.
Oakland starter Joe Blanton (8-8) gave up five runs on nine hits 5 2/3 innings.
Frank Thomas drove in two runs for Oakland, which lost for the sixth time in nine games.
