
JOLIET, Ill., July 9 (UPI) -- Jeff Gordon captured the checkered flag at Sunday's Sheetrock 400 Nextel Cup auto race at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill.
He crossed the finish line 0.461 seconds ahead of Jeff Burton.
The victory was Gordon's second of the season and 75th of his Nextel Cup career.
"We had the best car on the long runs, but I hate to win a race that way," said Gordon, who bumped Matt Kenseth out of the way late in the race.
Kyle Busch was third; Kevin Harvick fourth; and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was fifth.
Jimmy Johnson, Reed Sorenson, Kurt Busch, Clint Bowyer and J.J. Yeley completed the top 10.
In the points race, Johnson remained the leader with 2,651 points. Kenseth is second with 2,600; Earnhardt third with 2,394; Burton fourth (2,327) and Kasey Kahne fifth (2,303).
