HUTCHINSON, Kan., July 6 (UPI) -- Dave Barr and Jay Haas are co-leaders after 18 holes of the U.S. Senior Open in Hutchinson, Kan.
Both players shot 3-under 67 on Thursday.
D.A. Weibring, Massy Kuramoto and Graham Marsh are tied for third place at 2-under 68.
"Early in the round, I wasn't real sharp, but I got away with a couple bad shots," Haas said.
Bruce Summerhays, defending champion Allen Doyle, Bruce Lietzke and Lonnie Nielsen all shot 1-under 69 to tie for seventh place heading into Friday's second round.
Barr, who has struggled this season, has missed the cut in two of his four Senior Open starts, including 2005.
His best finish this season was a tie for 37th place at the U.S. Open.
Doyle shot a closing 8-under 63 to win last year's event, rallying from a nine-shot deficit.
