WASHINGTON, July 6 (UPI) -- Ryan Zimmerman's RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning gave Washington an 8-7 win over Florida Thursday afternoon.

It was the latest in a string of late-inning heroics for the rookie third baseman. He hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth on Tuesday for a 6-4 victory, and hit a game-winning homer against the New York Yankees on June 18.

He and Nick Johnson each had two RBI Thursday. Royce Clayton, Brian Schneider and Jose Guillen all drove in a run for the Nationals (38-49), who bounced back from an 18-9 loss on Wednesday.

Washington has won five of its last six games.

The winner was Chad Cordero (5-3).

Mike Jacobs hit a two-run homer, Hanley Ramirez had a run and two hits, and five other players had one RBI each for the Marlins (36-46), who have dropped five of their last six games.

The loser was Jason Vargas (1-2).
