Soccer star Shearer gives up video battle

LONDON, July 5 (UPI) -- British soccer star Alan Shearer has halted his attempts to remove a video of him singing from the Internet.

Shearer, known as one of the country's more reserved athletes, was caught on film passionately singing "Elevation" by U2 while driving his car, Sky News reported Wednesday.

Lawyers for Shearer's team, Newcastle United, tried to have the video, which Shearer's daughter had posted on networking site Bebo, removed from the dozens of Internet sites it subsequently popped up on, but eventually gave up the battle, Sky News said.

Shearer has been working as a commentator for the BBC during the World Cup.
