MLB: Detroit 10, Oakland 4

OAKLAND, Calif., July 5 (UPI) -- Craig Monroe had two hits, including a two-run homer, Wednesday afternoon as Detroit beat Oakland, 10-4, to avoid a three-game sweep.

Brandon Inge hit a solo homer; Ivan Rodriguez had two runs, three hits and one RBI; Chris Shelton hit a two-run single; and Curtis Granderson had two hits and two runs for the Tigers (57-28).

In 5 2/3 innings, winner Kenny Rogers (11-3) surrendered four runs and eight hits. Rogers, 41, joined 40-year-old Tom Glavine of the New York Mets as the oldest 11-game winners in the majors.

Marco Scutaro hit a two-run homer; Mark Kotsay hit an RBI double; and Bobby Kielty had a solo shot among hits one run, three hits and one RBI for the Athletics (44-40), who have dropped four of their last six games.

Loser Kirk Saarloos (3-5) yielded eight runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.
