MLB: Atlanta 6, St. Louis 3

ATLANTA, July 3 (UPI) -- Brian McCann marked his first All-Star selection with a two-run homer in a five-run third inning Monday, as Atlanta ignored a rain delay to beat St. Louis, 6-3.

Marcus Giles and Edgar Renteria hit back-to-back homers to join McCann in the third inning, which was delayed 55 minutes by a steady rain. Ryan Langerhans also hit a solo homer and Jeff Francoeur had two hits for Atlanta.

John Smoltz (5-5) earned the victory after giving up three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts in six innings. Jorge Sosa collected his third save with a perfect ninth.

Albert Pujols hit his 28th home run of the campaign and Aaron Miles drove in two runs for St. Louis, which has lost 11 of its last 13 games. Anthony Reyes (1-3) pitched five innings, giving up five runs on six hits.
