ST. LOUIS, July 2 (UPI) -- Albert Pujols' three-run homer sparked a six-run third for the St. Louis Cardinals, who went on to beat Kansas City, 9-7, Sunday afternoon.
Scott Rolen and Jim Edmonds also homered; and Pujols finished with three hits, four RBI and one run scored for the Cardinals, who broke a two-game losing streak.
Jason Marquis (10-6) yielded four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk over seven-plus innings to get the win.
David DeJesus and Emil Brown both had three hits, one RBI and one run scored for the Royals, who had carried a two-game winning streak into the game.
Mike Wood (3-3) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks over 4 2/3 innings.
