MLB: Boston 4, Florida 3

MIAMI, July 2 (UPI) -- Mark Loretta's sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning Sunday afternoon gave Boston a 4-3 win over the Florida Marlins.

Kevin Youkilis, Jason Varitek and David Ortiz all hit solo home runs for the Red Sox (50-29), who had only five hits.

Boston has won two straight and 14 of its last 15 games overall.

Reliever Mike Timlin (4-0) was the winner and closer Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 25th save.

Miguel Cabrera and Hanley Ramirez hit home runs; and Cabrera had two runs and two hits for the Marlins (35-43), who out-hit Boston, 9-5, in their second straight loss.

The losing pitcher was reliever Randy Messenger (1-4).
