PITTSBURGH, June 30 (UPI) -- Marcus Thames and Chris Shelton hit home runs Friday night as Detroit edged the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-6.
Magglio Ordonez had two runs, two hits and one RBI; Carlos Guillen hit a two-run triple; and Curtis Granderson had one run and one hit for the Tigers (55-25), who have won seven in a row and 13 of their last 14 games.

In relief, the winner was Roman Colon (1-0).
Sean Casey had one hit and three RBI, Jose Bautista hit a solo homer and a triple, and Jose Hernandez had an RBI triple for the Pirates (27-54), who have lost 14 of their last 15 games.
In only 2 1/3 innings, losing pitcher Kip Wells (0-3) gave up seven runs and six hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
