CROMWELL, Conn., June 29 (UPI) -- There is a four-way tie for the lead after round one of the Buick Championship at Cromwell, Conn.

Scott Verplank, Heath Slocum, Peter Lonard and Harrison Frazar all shot 5-under 65 Thursday.

On the packed leader-board, former U.S. Open champion Corey Pavin, Darron Stiles, Memorial winner Carl Pettersson, Camilo Villegas, Todd Fischer and Ron Whittaker are tied for fifth place at 4-under 66.

"I missed one fairway and I hit a lot of greens," said Verplank, who has been hampered by a shoulder injury. "I haven't played here that often, but it seems to fit my game."

"I hit a lot of greens, a lot of fairways and holed a couple of long putts," said Lonard.
