OMAHA, June 26 (UPI) -- Oregon State's Bill Rowe scored in the bottom of the eighth Monday and the Beavers posted a 3-2 win over North Carolina for their first NCAA baseball title.
The Beavers won the deciding Game Three of the College World Series finals. North Carolina left nine men on base and made four errors, including one that led to the winning run.
The Beavers, who won 11-7 Sunday night to force Game Three, had a tough time with Tar Heels pitcher Daniel Bard until the bottom of the eighth, when they went ahead 3-2.
Andrew Miller replaced Bard and faced pinch-hitter Ryan Gipson, who hit a bouncer to Bryan Steed at second base. Steed threw wide of first baseman Tim Federowicz, allowing Rowe to score.
Oregon State escaped a jam in the ninth inning to win its second NCAA Division I national championship in school history. The other was by the 1961 Cross Country team.
