Boston Red Sox demote J.T. Snow

BOSTON, June 19 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox Monday designated first baseman J.T. Snow for assignment and recalled 6-foot-8 pitcher Kyle Snyder from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Snow, a six-time Gold Glove winner, signed with the BoSox in January after 14 seasons with the New York Yankees, California Angles and San Francisco Giants.

Snow, who played in the Giants' 2002 World Series, was hitting just .205 with four RBI and was beaten out by Kevin Youkilis at first. The Red Sox have 10 days to trade or release Snow -- or he could accept demotion to the minors if he clears waivers.

Snyder, who was claimed on waivers Friday after starting just one game this season for the Kansas City Royals, was tabbed to start Monday's game for Boston against the Washington Nationals.
