LEIPZIG, Germany, June 14 (UPI) -- Xabi Alonso and David Villa scored goals four minutes apart and Villa added a second-half goal, lifting Spain to a 4-0 World Cup victory over Ukraine.

The victory gives Spain six points in Group H play, which virtually guarantees the team will advance to the elimination round.

Alonso got Spain's first goal Wednesday against Ukraine 13 minutes into the contest, heading in a corner kick from Xavi.

Only four minutes later, Spain went up 2-0 in a free kick from Villa that went off the defensive wall and deflected past a diving Ukraine goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskiy.

Villa was the victim of a hard tackle in the box early in the second half, a play that earned a red card for Ukraine's Vladyslav Vashchuk. Villa took the penalty kick himself and drove it into the left-hand side of the net.

Fernando Torres wrapped up the scoring for Spain with a goal in the 81st minute.

Spain's defense was sharp, allowing Ukraine to manage just five shots toward Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Spain ran its World Cup unbeaten streak to eight games, going 5

3 in the span and has not lost in the tournament since its first game in 1998.

Spain next plays Tunisia on Monday in Stuttgart while Ukraine is scheduled against Saudi Arabia in Hamburg. Group H completes first-round play June 23.
