PHILADELPHIA, June 10 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies put catcher Mike Lieberthal on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained left hip.
The roster move is retroactive to June 6, when the injury-plagued Lieberthal was injured while rounding first base late in a game against Arizona.
He said on the team's Web site he has tried to play through pain lately.
"I just knew by running on it that I wasn't going to be able to run for at least two days or a while," Lieberthal said. "It's the same as when I pulled it."
Lieberthal also missed time his season with a bruised left knee. He is batting .250 with no homers and nine RBI.
Manager Charlie Manuel said the Phillies will use both Chris Coste and Sal Fasano until Lieberthal returns.
"It was going to be at least 7-10 days before (Lieberthal) would get a chance to play," Manuel said. "We couldn't go that long."
