
SEATTLE, June 6 (UPI) -- Gil Meche allowed one run over seven innings, as the Seattle Mariners topped Kansas City, 4-1, at Safeco Field.
Raul Ibanez singled in two runs and finished 3-for-3, while Jose Lopez doubled twice, had an RBI and scored two times. Richie Sexson also drove in a run, as the Mariners won three times during the four-game set. They have won four of five games since a six-game slide.
Meche (5-4) allowed four hits, walked two and struck out six. J.J. Putz threw the final inning for his eighth save.
Mike Wood (3-1) suffered the defeat by yielding six hits and two runs over 5 1/3 frames.
Mark Teahen knocked in Kansas City's only run with a ground out in the seventh inning, as the Royals lost for the 19th time in 23 games. They went 4-6 on their away swing, their 10th straight losing road trip.
