Clijsters, Henin-Hardenne advance in Paris

PARIS, June 3 (UPI) -- Belgians Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin-Hardenne Saturday advanced to the women's fourth round at the French Open Tennis Tournament in Paris.

Clijsters, the second seed, topped No. 27 Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain, 6-3 6-4. Henin-Hardenne, the defending champion, beat Italy's Tathiana Garbin, 6-4, 6-0.

"It was important to go for my shots," said Clijsters, the reigning U.S. Open champ, who made 44 un-forced errors. "I definitely missed a lot of them, but also made a lot. Luckily, I made some good ones at the right time. There are improvements to be made."

Despite her struggles, Clijsters' victory took 79 minutes and was her eighth win in nine matches on European clay this spring.

Other winners were 10th-seeded Anastasia Myskina of Russia, 12th-seeded Martina Hingis of Switzerland, 13th-seeded Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany and No. 31 Shahar Peer of Israel.
