Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DETROIT, May 31 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez had one run, three hits and two RBI Wednesday night to help the New York Yankees beat Detroit, 6-1, for their fifth straight win.
Jason Giambi had two runs, three hits and one RBI; and Andy Phillips had one run and two hits for the Yankees (31-20).
Winner Mike Mussina (7-1) went the distance on a six-hitter. He walked one and struck out five.
Magglio Ordonez had one hit and drove in the lone run; while both Marcus Thames and Brandon Inge had two hits for the Tigers (35-18), who have dropped their last four games following an eight-game winning streak.
Losing pitcher Nate Robertson (5-3) was tagged for six runs and 10 hits in 8 2/3 innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
