Several fines handed down by NASCAR

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., May 31 (UPI) -- Kyle Busch was fined $50,000 Wednesday by NASCAR officials in Daytona Beach, Fla. for an incident at the Coca Cola 600 last Sunday night in Concord, N.C.

Busch, who also was penalized 25 Nextel Cup driver points and placed on probation until Dec. 31, hit Casey Mears as their cars rolled down the track at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. During the hit, Mears suffered heavy damage to his car as it rolled into the grass.

Busch also was charged with violating a NASCAR regulation when he threw a safety device at Mears as NASCAR officials tried to help Busch take the mandatory ride to the care center.

Additionally, Busch car owner Rick Hendrick was penalized 25 owner points.

In other actions, Jeremy Mayfield's team lost 25 Nextel Cup points for failing a post-race inspection. Team owner Ray Evernham lost 25 points and crew chief Ted Andrews was hit with a $35,000 fine.
