David Howell gets an easy win at Surrey

SURREY, England, May 28 (UPI) -- England's David Howell Sunday was an easy winner of the European Tour's BMW Championship at Surrey, England.

Over the final 18 holes, Howell shot 3-under-par 69 to end at 17-under-par 271. He shot in the 60s in each round and beat countryman Simon Khan by 5 strokes.

"It didn't feel easy, trust me," Howell said. "I had too big a lead and my play over the front nine gave me that little bit of comfort. This BMW Championship is our flagship event. It doesn't come any bigger than this in Europe. I never dreamed I get my name on this trophy. I'm very honored and humbled."

It was Howell's second win of the season. He earned enough points to qualify for the Official World Golf Rankings when they are released on Monday.

Khan (68) was alone as the runner-up at 12-under 276.

Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez was third at 11-under 277.
